Find the broken links visitors hit on your site, see how often each one is requested, and fix them with 301 or 302 redirects.

== Description ==

ExpertWP 404 Page Monitor keeps a list of the missing pages people (and search engines) request on your site, with a hit count and the date of the last visit. From the same screen you can send any of those addresses to a working page with a 301 (permanent) or 302 (temporary) redirect.

* **See what is broken:** every missing address with its number of hits, sorted by most hits or most recent.
* **Fix it in one click:** add a 301 or 302 redirect next to any entry; remove it again at any time.
* **Light on your server:** each address is written at most once a minute, the write happens after the page has been sent, and the log keeps at most 2,000 rows.
* **Skip missing files:** broken images, fonts and scripts can be left out of the log (on by default).
* **Search and filter:** find addresses by text and hide static files from the list.
* **Works with any theme:** your redirects keep working when you change themes.

The monitor is under **Tools → 404 Monitor**.

= For theme developers =

* `pm404_menu_parent` (filter) – the admin menu to place the screen under. Default `tools.php`.
* `pm404_enabled` (filter) – return `false` to stop logging (redirects keep working).

== Installation ==

1. Install the plugin from **Plugins → Add New**, or upload the `expertwp-404-page-monitor` folder to `/wp-content/plugins/`.
2. Activate it.
3. Open **Tools → 404 Monitor**. Entries appear as visitors request missing pages.

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= Does it slow my site down? =

No. Nothing runs on normal pages. On a 404 page the plugin writes one row after the page has been sent, at most once a minute per address.

= Are bots counted? =

Yes. Every request for a missing page is counted, because search engine crawlers hitting broken links matter too.

= What happens to my data if I delete the plugin? =

Deleting the plugin from the Plugins screen removes its log table and settings. Deactivating it keeps everything.

= I used the 404 Monitor in the ExpertPulse theme. Is my data kept? =

Yes. The log and redirects are moved over automatically the first time the plugin runs.
